About the founder
A platform built for the sitter.
Sit Stay Explore was created by Leilia, drawing on experience as a house and pet sitter, homeowner, journalist and editor.
Why I created Sit Stay Explore
Getting a house or pet sit is only part of the challenge. Knowing which opportunities are right for you, asking useful questions and being properly prepared are just as important.
I've experienced house sitting from more than one perspective: as a sitter, a homeowner and a lifelong animal lover. My editorial background, including time as editor of Dogs Life magazine in Australia, has also shaped how I research, question and communicate practical information.
There's considerable responsibility involved in caring for someone's home and animals. Yet sitters are often left to develop their own systems for managing applications, references, documents, care instructions and the details that make an arrangement successful.
I created Sit Stay Explore to provide a practical, affordable professional home for that work, whether you sit in exchange for accommodation, provide paid services or do both.
Importantly, it isn't another marketplace where sitters compete for homeowners' attention. It is a place to organise your own practice, represent your experience honestly and protect your independent relationships.
Adventure Freely, Care Deeply. That remains the philosophy behind Sit Stay Explore.
